With students roaring with approval, James McDermott walked to the podium to accept the 2022-23 Pat and Michelle Goodman Outstanding Teacher Appreciation Award at the annual Senior Breakfast/Awards Ceremony on May 10, 2023.
“I was totally surprised and humbled that others would think of me for the outstanding teacher award,” McDermott stated. “I am so thankful for everyone I work with every day.”

McDermott teaches pre-algebra, algebra and geometry and is in his third year at RCHS after spending 12 years at Holy Name Catholic School in Omaha.
“Roncalli is a special place. It’s a close-knit family-type atmosphere. Everyone supports each other and looks out for one another.”

McDermott also serves as chess club moderator, plays piano for school masses, helps with retreats and in the spring coaches the RCHS girl’s tennis team.
