RCHS alum Chris Mitchell eager to give back alma mater
Jason Unger

When Roncalli Catholic graduate Chris Mitchell got an opportunity to teach at his alma mater he was excited about the opportunity to give back to a school that shaped him into the person he is today.
“I knew when I was a student here that it would be a great opportunity to come back and teach here,” Mitchell said. “In my opinion, Roncalli Catholic is the best high school in the Archdiocese.”
Mitchell teaches music, is the band instructor and is in charge of the high school musical.
Having your dream job does not come without challenges. With COVID-19 all but shutting down extra-curricular activities including band and music, Mitchell has found himself in rebuilding mode, trying to re-establish interest in the theatre, band and chorus.
“We are in a challenging cycle right now,” Mitchell stated. “The kids coming into high school now were in junior high when COVID-19 hit and many of the opportunities in the arts and music were taken away. My job is to get students involved with the arts and music and show them how much fun it can be.”
Being a recent graduate, Mitchell has had to get used to something new when roaming the halls at RCHS. His teachers have now become his peers.
“I can call them all by their first names,” exclaimed Mitchell. “That took some getting used to, but I’m getting there.”
