DRAWING (Semester)
Elective Grade 9-12
Prerequisite: None
Requisite: Students furnish pencils, erasers and sketchbook.
This course gives studio instruction in perception and drawing skills with emphasis on pencil techniques. Various techniques and media are presented to create drawings of still life, landscape, and figure study. A printmaking unit is also covered.
ADVANCED DRAWING (Semester)
Elective Grade 10-12
Prerequisite: Drawing; Teacher Recommendation.
Requisite: Students furnish pencils, erasers and sketchbook.
Work centers on advanced composition, format, breaking the borders, color emphasis, technique advancement, grid background, and more colored pencil work. Works should be at the level for portfolio presentation for students wishing to pursue art further. Students are responsible for obtaining research material (photographs, still life material, etc.) and organizing their own compositions.
PAINTING (Semester)

Prerequisite: None
Requisite: Students furnish paints.
This course places an emphasis on color theory and composition through various techniques of using opaque and transparent painting mediums (acrylic and watercolor). Students need to furnish paints.
ADVANCED PAINTING (Semester)
Elective Grade 10-12
Prerequisite: Painting; Teacher Recommendation.
Requisite: Students furnish paints.
Work centers on technique development. Students create works in the style of artists as chosen. A variety of styles are discussed so students can choose among them. Techniques covered vary with the abilities of students and their levels.
POTTERY (Semester)
Elective Grade 9-12
Prerequisite: None
Requisite: Materials fee
This course includes instruction in pinch, coil and slab techniques of making hand built pottery, and the process of creating pottery forms on the potter's wheel. An emphasis is placed on decoration.
ADVANCED POTTERY (Semester)
Elective Grade 10-12
Prerequisite: Pottery; Teacher Recommendation.
Requisite: Materials Fee
Work emphasizes technique and decoration. Advanced processes include lids, sectional pots, pulled handles, sets, shaped slab boxes, combination wheel-hand built pieces, all-over pattern, and additional work with underglazes.
GRAPHIC DESIGN (Semester)

Requisite: Consumable items may be billed at cost
This course gives instruction in various techniques of creating advertising. Lettering, product design, ad design, posters, computer graphics, and layout are covered.
3-D DESIGN (Semester)

Prerequisite: None
Requisite: Consumable items may be billed at cost
This course explores various ways to create both sculpture and wire jewelry through the use of various mediums (clay, paper, wire, plastics, metals, etc.). Jewelry pieces include appliqué, wire rings, band rings, casting, etc. Sculpture pieces include additive and subtractive methods, wire, and found object.
PHOTOGRAPHY (Semester)

Prerequisite: None
Requisite: Camera (digital and 35 mm), film, other photography materials/developing costs to be supplied by the student.
The basics of photography will be covered in this class. Composition, exposure, lighting, varieties of film, parts of the camera, and camera usage will be covered using both 35 mm and digital cameras. Printing photos and film processing will also be covered.
MUSIC
MUSIC APPRECIATION (Semester)
Elective Grade 9-10
Prerequisite: None
Students explore music theory, notation, and rhythm through the use of recorders and chimes and different instruments. Students also explore various forms of the music literature from Renaissance to modern time periods. Each student is required to participate as a member of the class choral ensemble for the performance requirement of this course
CONCERT CHOIR (Full Year)
Elective Grades 9-12
Prerequisite: None
This course is designed to teach students skills necessary to become intelligent, independent vocalists. Skills include reading music notation, alignment, breathing technique, phrasing, diction, attacks and cut-offs, as well as choral blend. Each semester includes at least one performance and attendance at all performances is required. Grades are based on participation and musicianship.
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC (Full Year)
Elective Grades 9-12
Prerequisite: Participation in elementary/junior high band program
This course is designed for students to continue the development of expertise in individual instruments. Students work on intimation, expression, and sight-reading skills as well as an ensemble. Each semester includes at least one performance and attendance at all performances is required. Grades are based on participation and musicianship.
GUITAR 1 (Semester)
Elective Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: None
Students study types of guitars, basic care and methods of tuning. Basic note reading on all six strings is followed by chord progressions. Included in the study are styles of playing flat picking, finger picking and elementary tablature to easy folk song repertoire.
GUITAR 2 (Semester)
Elective (Grades 11-12)
Prerequisite: Guitar 1
Students will continue to develop note reading, as well as understanding of chord progressions and advanced tablature to broaden the scope of their musicianship and repertoire.
WOMEN’S CHORUS (Semester)
Elective Grades 9-12
Women’s Chorus is a music performance and service organization made up specifically of female voices grades 9-12. Its class structure is rehearsals, sectionals, and performances. Choir members are given the opportunity to sing at a variety of activities throughout the year, including the Christmas Concert, Pops & Pasta, Spring Concert, and District Music Contests, as well as other community/school functions.
