Physical Education & Health Courses

P.E. I
(Semester)

Required                                                                                                                         Grade 9-10

Prerequisite:  None

Exercise and physical fitness is the primary focus of this course.  It introduces students to various forms of exercise in order to improve coordination and endurance, as well as their knowledge in those areas.  This curriculum is designed to encourage students to be active for life.  Physical education uniform shirt and shorts are available for purchase through the bookstore.  The P.E. uniform is REQUIRED for this class. 

HEALTH
(Semester)

Required                                                                                                                       Grade 10-12

Prerequisite:  P.E. 1

Upon completion of this course, students are able to apply knowledge to make healthy decisions concerning lifestyles and habits they have acquired.  Students are also able to gain hands-on experience by studying various types of diseases and injuries through first aid instruction.  An added component of this class is completion of a CPR unit.

P.E. II
(Semester)

Elective                                                                                                                          Grade 10-12

Prerequisite:  P.E. I

An advance course primarily directed to student’s use of movement ability for essential purposes such as survival, health maintenance and improvement, fitness, education and leisure, communication, and expression.  The course also directs the relationship of movement to the student’s physical and social environment and to other aspects of total growth and development.

Physical education uniform shirt and shorts are available for purchase through the bookstore.  The P.E. uniform is REQUIRED for this class. 

P.E. III
(Semester)

Elective                                                                                                                       Grades 11-12

Prerequisite: P.E.I

This class prepares students to learn the basics of officiating team sports such as volleyball, soccer, basketball and baseball. If interested, students may test and apply to become certified officials for youth, high school or advanced level team sports. 

A minimum of 20 students is required for this class to be offered.

LIFESTYLES FITNESS I
(Semester)

Elective                                                                                                                          Grade 10-12

Prerequisite:  P.E. I

This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of Weight Training.  This course emphasizes the physical and psychological benefits achieved through proper training.  Students are taught the importance of proper technique and the major muscle groups.  Through students' active participation the course instills in them a desire for a physically fit lifestyle.  Physical education uniform shirt and shorts are available for purchase through the bookstore.  The P.E. uniform is REQUIRED for this class.

LIFESTYLES FITNESS II
(Semester)

Elective                                                                                                                          Grade 11-12

Prerequisite:  Lifestyles Fitness I

This course will introduce students to a more individualized weight program.  This course communicates to students the physical and psychological benefits achieved through proper training.  Students are taught the importance of proper technique and the development of individual programs.  Through students’ active participation, the course instills in them a desire for a physically fit lifestyle.  Physical education uniform shirt and shorts are available for purchase through the bookstore.  The P.E. uniform is REQUIRED for this class.
