MATH LAB
(Full Year)
Elective Grade 9
Prerequisite: None
This course is designed to review and enhance skills and concepts learned in previous math courses. We will be enhancing Algebra I skills that are learned throughout the year. Basic math skills will be worked on daily.
This basic course will provide students with a necessary background for Algebra I. This pre-algebra course does not meet entrance requirements in math for the University of Nebraska system.
ALGEBRA I
(Full Year)
Requirement Grade 9-10
Prerequisite: None
This course extends the skills and concepts of basic algebra to include the numbers in fraction form. The solving of open sentences is extended to include equations and inequalities in two variables, as well as quadratic equations. The course also enlarges students' knowledge of geometric facts and introduces them to some simple trigonometry.
The successful completion of this course will meet part of the three-year math entrance requirement for the University of Nebraska system.
ALGEBRA I: HONORS
(Full Year)
Elective Grade 9
This is an accelerated course that quickly reviews basic skills and concepts of algebra and progresses into factoring polynomials, solving quadratic equations, algebraic fractions, functions, equations, and inequalities in two variables, rational and irrational numbers as well as basic concepts in geometry and trigonometry. Emphasis is placed on word problem solving skills in all of the above mentioned areas.
The successful completion of this course will meet part of the three-year math entrance requirement for the University of Nebraska system.
BASIC GEOMETRY
(Full Year)
Elective Grade 10-12
Prerequisite: Algebra I; Teacher Recommendation.
This course presents the basic language, symbols and thought processes of geometry. The postulates and theorems needed for the study of lines, polygons, and circles are developed and used. Introductory proofs are studied. Special topics include ratio and proportion, areas and volumes of solids, and right triangles. Entry into this course requires the permission of the math department.
The successful completion of this course will meet part of the three-year math entrance requirement for the University of Nebraska system.
GEOMETRY (Full Year)
Elective Grade 9-12
Prerequisite: Algebra I
This course presents the language, symbolism and thought processes of geometry. Basic postulates and theorems needed for the study of lines, polygons, and circles are developed and proven. A basic introduction to triangle trigonometry is also presented.
The successful completion of this course will meet part of the three-year math entrance requirement for the University of Nebraska system.
GEOMETRY: HONORS
(Full Year)
Elective Grade 9-10
Prerequisite: Algebra I; Teacher Recommendation.
Honors students apply the vocabulary, postulates and theorems of Geometry to proofs about triangles and parallelograms. Students will analyze polygons and calculate the measures of their sides and angles. Students create their own theorems based on information they learn and compare them to theorems previously studied.
The successful completion of this course will meet part of the three-year math entrance requirement for the University of Nebraska system.
CONSUMER MATH
(Full Year)
Elective Grade 11-12
Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation.
This course provides students the opportunity to review basic math skills and to apply these skills in life situations. Practical situations may include: interpreting charts and graphs, figuring ratios and percentages, working with whole numbers, fractions and mixed numbers.
This consumer math course does not meet entrance requirements in math for the University of Nebraska system and other institutes of higher learning.
ALGEBRA II
(Full Year)
Elective Grade 10-12
Prerequisite: Algebra I and Geometry
This course includes a review of Algebra I skills. Some of the topics included are quadratics, functions and relations, complex numbers, exponents, and solving equations and inequalities.
The successful completion of this course will meet part of the three-year math entrance requirement for the University of Nebraska system.
ALGEBRA II/TRIG: HONORS
(Full Year)
Elective Grade 10-12
Prerequisite: Honors Algebra I, Geometry, Teacher Recommendation.
This is an accelerated course that covers the review of Algebra I skills, solving quadratics, complex numbers, geometry, trigonometry, matrix Algebra, sequence and series, as well as basic concepts of probability theory.
The successful completion of this course will meet part of the three-year math entrance requirement for the University of Nebraska system.
PRE-CALCULUS
(Full Year)
Elective Grade 11-12
Prerequisite: Algebra II
This course includes extensive work with functions and equations. Students work with many concepts in Trigonometry and some beginning concepts in Calculus.
The successful completion of this course will enhance a student’s math background for college.
AP CALCULUS
(Full Year)
Elective Grade 11-12
Prerequisite: Honors Algebra II; Teacher Recommendation.
This course is an introductory study of limits, derivatives, and integrals. AP Calculus includes applications to business, science and mathematical concepts. This course follows the Advanced Placement curriculum. College credit is available via the AP Exam in May.
