New Chaplain Joins The Roncalli Catholic Family

Father Chibuzor Gerald Igboanusi joined Roncalli Catholic this year as the school’s new chaplain. Known as Father Chi, Igboanusi is also the associate pastor at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.

Born and raised in a strong Catholic family in West Africa, Father Chi is the sixth son and the youngest of 13 children. He originally came to the United States in 2000 to pursue a second undergraduate degree at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, graduating with a B.A. in Communications in 2003.

His first undergraduate degree was in Philosophy from the Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College in Owerri, Nigeria.

Next, he pursued graduate studies in Communications at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. While there, Father Chi decided to respond to God's call to the diocesan priesthood, and in the fall of 2004, he joined the Archdiocese of Omaha. He was ordained a priest on June 7, 2008 by the Most Rev. Elden Francis Curtiss, Archbishop of Omaha.

In 2008, Father Chi received his first assignment as a priest at the St. Stephen the Martyr Parish in West Omaha, where he served as an associate pastor. He founded the St. Stephen the Martyr Young Adult Ministry, also known as “Adults Serving a Purpose” (ASAP), as well as “the Nazarenes,” a vibrant Charismatic Prayer Ministry, while serving at St. Stephen.

While at Roncalli Catholic, Father Chi says his goal is to help our students grow in their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and become responsible adults who will embody Christ’s message of unconditional love, compassion and forgiveness to others.

Father Chi earned a Certificate from the Institute for Priestly Formation at Creighton University in 2005, and a Certificate in Clinical Pastoral Education from Alegent Health in 2006.  He attended Mount Angel Seminary at St. Benedict in Oregon and earned a Masters of Arts degree in Sacred Scripture in 2007, and a Master’s of Divinity in Sacred Theology in 2008. That same year, Father Chi also earned a Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology from Collegio Sant’ Anselmo (Benedictine College of St. Anselm) in Rome, Italy. He is currently working on a graduate degree in Counseling at Creighton University.
