Assistants to the Chaplain

The Assistants to the Chaplain are a group of young, dedicated Christian men and women at Roncalli Catholic High School.  As an Assistant to the Chaplain, you will be called upon to pray, lead others in prayer, provide spiritual support for your fellow students at Roncalli, and periodically advise the chaplain on the pastoral needs of the school.  In order to do this, you should be able to understand how God works in your life on a daily basis.  Therefore, you must seek a life of daily prayer and attend Mass on Sunday.  You should be able to articulate your religious values, and be a person who is able to recognize your own gifts and generously serve others.  Finally, you must be one of high moral standards and personal integrity.
For those who wish to lead prayers, you should be able to speak clearly and enunciate prayers with conviction and comprehension of what you are saying.  All who expressed interest in being an assistant to the chaplain qualify for the task of:
  • Sacristan, who may help set up for daily Masses
  • Acolyte, who may help serve daily Masses
  • Lead Acolyte, who may guide the servers for All-School Masses
  • Daily Prayer in the Chapel for the intentions of whole school
  • Assuming a Freshman “Prayer Partner” – Adopting a freshmen student for whom you will pray and support throughout the course of the year.
In order to be an Assistant to the Chaplain, you will be required to attend one gathering per month.

Additional meetings will be called as needed at the school, especially in preparation for all-school liturgies.  I would like to plan for the Assistants to the Chaplain to have an opportunity for at least one field trip each semester.

Monthly gatherings will occur in the evenings at Saint Bernard parish or at other select locations.
